MasterWorks Chorale begins each season with two open rehearsals, free to anyone who would like to consider joining.
For the 2018–19 season, new singers (high school age and older) are welcome on two Tuesday evenings, September 4 and 11, from 7:00 to 9:15 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 97 East Genesee St., Skaneateles. [map]
Formal auditions are not required; new members simply meet with music director Kip Coerper to determine their vocal ranges for the best placement in the choir. It's a chance to hear, and begin practicing, some of the music we'll learn for upcoming concerts, and to meet other new and returning singers.
Membership dues for the season, if you choose to join, are $65 per person. We rehearse Tuesday evenings, 7:15–9:15, at First Presbyterian Church. Some rehearsals include mini-tutorials on music reading, vocal skills or choral singing. Dates, times, and locations are subject to change as circumstances necessitate. A Saturday morning rehearsal may also be held the day before a Sunday concert.
Questions about singing with MasterWorks? You'll find many answers here.
To help you practice on your own, CyberBass.com offers downloadable audio tracks and mp3 files of individual parts. Start with the index of major works, alphabetized by composer. For our annual Messiah program, you can also go directly to Handel's Messiah.
Another helpful site is choralia.net. Choose from the mp3 catalog, featuring actual voices, or the Virtual Singer (VS) catalog, featuring synthesized voices, to practice at graduated levels: with metronome and/or organ only; emphasized among the other choir parts; and balanced with the other parts. Music is alphabetized by composer for listening or downloading.
